Commencement Show

I realize as a photography major I should probably own a better point and shoot, but here's a cellphone photo of my set up for Commencement. Today's actually the last day it'll be up, it's a huge show with every soon-to-be grad's (I graduate today!!) work up, so that's about 400 people. However the show only opened to the public on Thursday! I haven't even seen everyone's work yet. In any event, it's all pretty exciting and the next time I post I'll have graduated from Maryland Institute College of Art.

It's been so Long!!!

My last post was almost a month ago! Well with finals and almost being a graduate of college, I've been pretty busy. In cleaning out all of my spaces within the Photo dept and such, I found some images that I took over a year ago, inspired by my sad scabbed knees. I fell on some black ice on my way to an internship and it was not pretty. And in case you're wondering, my knees don't look like this anymore.

Print Fair

So my Nylon prints make yet another appearance.. at the Baltimore Museum of Art Print Fair! Like the series? Buy a print of your own cos they're for sale! Otherwise just come by and see what other great printmakers (and some photographers) are doing in Baltimore! MICA students are free and I believe the entrance fee is $20 otherwise. I'll be working at the "Works on Paper" table for MICA from 2:30 to 6:30 pm. Hope to see some familiar faces!

Last night I received a lovely birthday gift (it's my birthday on Wednesday) of the book Instant Light: Tarkovsky Polaroids. It features 60 Polaroids taken by Andrey Tarkovsky in Russia and Italy between 1979 and 1984. Each image has a poem or description. The Polaroids are absolutely gorgeous.

Sparkapolooza

I just submited this image to Sparkapolooza for "Green". Everyone should get in on it! The brief ends March 21st.

Photo Lecture

So today the photography department hosted a lecture by three very talented MICA grads: Daniel Shea, Jennifer Grimyser, and Rose Cromwell. Unfortunately, I pretty much missed the entire lecture, but I got an awesome impromptu crit from Daniel and Jennifer which was a highlight in my day.

Icicles

Just a little something I took when the snow was in the process of melting away. Hopefully it won't snow anymore this year *fingers crossed*. I don't know how much I can take! Anyways, I like this picture because of the discoloration happening. I think that might have been because of the cold temp outside, but I'm no Polaroid expert.

More for Thesis

There will be 9 images total, but with these four, my grand total at this point comes to 6. I don't have a name yet for this series either.

Thesis

So these past three months I've been working on my thesis project for college. These are just a couple of images from the series. These scans are pretty bad so once I get a free minute, I'll probably rescan and re-post the images.
The idea behind them is that I'm working with the female silhouette and how it's changed over time and within art. The form of the female body has had to endure a lot of changes in the name of fashion and beauty. I'm not really questioning the idea of beauty though as much as I am investigating, with fabrics, shapes and forms, how clothes can embody the concept of feminine.

bodies, bodies, bodies

In honor of my upcoming show with fellow artist Kottie Gaydos, I decided that I would post my work that will be featured in the show, especially since I don't have a website yet and am planning on using this blog for the time being. The show is called 'Contained' and we should be getting the invites out soon. Until then, the show will be up from December 5th to December 18th in the Wilgus Gallery which is in the Main Building of Maryland Institute College of Art. The reception will be on December 11th at 7pm. And without further ado, here are my pieces from my body of work for 'Contained':
